The unique value of this book is based on the fact that it is one of the earliest books to study Chinese classical poetry from the perspective of linguistics. As highlighted by the author, classical poetry has an independent language system. Therefore, the author elaborates on the overall characteristics and dynamics of the language system from macroscopical view instead of analyzing a particular poem at the micro level.
